- ==================================
-
- 1. Installation
- ------------
- Installation is best achieved via the 'Canon Creative' menu.
- This has the advantage of setting up printers and fonts.
-
- Alternatively it is possible to install Design Essentials using
- the following method.
-
- Close all applications.
- From the FILE Menu in the Program Manager (Win 3.1x) or from
- the START Menu (Win95) choose Run... and type:
-
- <CD-ROM>:\DESIGNE\SETUP.EXE
-
- Then follow the instructions. (Double clicking on this file
- in File Manager or Explorer has the same effect)
-
-
- 3. Printer Installation and Configuration
- --------------------------------------
- For the best results we recommend that you install the current
- version of your Canon printer driver that is supplied with
- Canon Creative.
-
- Design Essentials supports Color, Photo Color and Fluorescent
- inks. It is important to ensure that the 'Print Cartridge'
- setting in the print dialog box matches the currently installed
- ink.
-
-
- IMPORTANT:
- ----------
- 1. The BJC-610 and BJC-620 "Graphics & Color" and "Quality"
- attributes must be set correctly to get the best looking
- prints.
-
- Refer to the Design Essentials User Guide or the on-line
- help under "Tips and Shortcuts - How to Optimize Printing
- in Design Essentials"
-
- 2. To obtain the best results (in particular the correct
- matching of color), the printer setup options need
- to be set correctly.
-
- The following applies to Canon color printers other than
- the BJC-610 and BJC-620.
-
- When printing using Photo Color ink, you will need to change
- the printer properties. Under the Graphics tab select
- a Color Model of 'Photo Color'. Under the Paper tab select
- 'High Resolution Paper' for the media type.
-
- When printing using Color, or Fluorescent ink, you will also
- need to change the printer properties. Under the Graphics
- tab select a Color Model of 'Color'. Under Windows 95 Design
- Essentials can automatically set the rest of the printer
- settings for most Canon printers. However, under Windows
- 3.1, you should set the following settings:
-
- a. Media Type - Plain Paper (even when using
- other media)
- b. Print Quality - Standard
- c. Fine - Off
- d. Image Color Matching - Off
- e. Print Model - Custom
- f. Option
- : Color Selection - Full Color
- : Half Toning - Diffusion
- : Color Adjustment - None
- : Intensity - Middle (0)
-
-
-
- NOTES:
- ------
- Print speed can be improved if the Print Manager is disabled.
- (See Windows help)
-
-
-
-
-
- SECTION 4 - Troubleshooting
- ===========================
-
-
- 1. Design Essentials Stops Displaying or Printing Properly
- -------------------------------------------------------
- Make sure that there is several megabytes of free space on your
- hard disk for temporary swap files.
-
- 2. Print Times are Slow or Printing Fails
- --------------------------------------
- There could be a number of reasons for this:
-
- a. You have other applications open
- --------------------------------
- Close ALL applications except Design Essentials. Close
- all Design Essentials Browsers and Text Editing windows
- until the print is complete.
-
- b. The printer SETUP is incorrect
- ------------------------------
- Please Refer to the Design Essentials User Guide
- or the on-line help under "Tips and Shortcuts -
- How to Optimize Printing in Design Essentials".
-
-
- c. Printing at "High" Quality
- --------------------------
- The Design Essentials print dialog gives a choice of
- quality of printing. "Normal" is only slightly lower
- in quality to "High", but is much faster and requires less
- memory. "Normal" quality is recommended for most printing,
- unless using 'Photo Color' ink (when 'High'
- is recommended).
-
- 3. Print Colors are Wrong
- ----------------------
- a. The printer SETUP is incorrect
- ------------------------------
- Please Refer to the Design Essentials User Guide
- or the on-line help under "Tips and Shortcuts -
- How to Optimize Printing in Design Essentials".
-
- Also see the section in this readme file about printer
- installation.
-
-
- 4. Problems With Scanning
- ---------------------
- The Design Essentials scanning function requires a TWAIN driver
- for it to work. This must be installed. Please refer to your
- scanner documentation for more information regarding the TWAIN
- driver installation.
-
- Scanning problems with Design Essentials can usually
- be attributed to either your interface card or TWAIN driver.
-
- If your scanning device works with another product and not
- Design Essentials then its most likely that the TWAIN driver
- has not been correctly installed or is not compatible.
-
-
-
- SECTION 5 - Uninstalling Design Essentials
- ==========================================
- As part of the installation process an Uninstall program is placed
- onto the hard disk and can be located in the Design Essentials
- Program Group. Double clicking the Uninstall icon will start the
- uninstallation process.
-
